"DEATH AT DAYTON'S FOLLY" by Virginia Rath with its original dust jacket. 1939 early reprint edition; Caxton House; New York. The book is a snowbound country house mystery novel, being the first installment in Rath's five-book "Rocky Allan" detective series. Alfred Leale, a wealthy San Francisco lumber king, purchases "Dayton's Folly"—an old, abandoned mountain resort hotel in the mountains of Northern California. To the bewilderment of locals, he moves his entire family and staff there in the dead of winter. Rocky Allan, a homespun temporary deputy sheriff, arrives at the remote resort just in time to witness the murder of Alfred Leale. Immediately after the murder, a massive blizzard hits the mountains, cutting off the estate from the outside world and trapping everyone inside together. Trapped with a killer, Deputy Allan is forced to untangle his very first murder case. The situation becomes increasingly complicated as the body count rises and he develops feelings for a mysterious, red-haired nurse who is a primary suspect. Condition: Clean back cover and spine; small blue stain at the bottom edge of the front cover. Sharp cover corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. The pages are age-toned, though not brittle, and clean with no notable issues found. The pages appear unread. Overall the book is in Very Good condition. The dust jacket has light soiling to the covers and spine; tiny tears at the top edge of the spine, and at the flap corners; the front flap has the shadow outline of what appears to be a label that has been removed.overall the jacket is in Very Good- condition.
