First edition, first impression; very clean and straight thick boards with gilt facsimile signature to front cover; printed family tree to end papers; 12 colour plates, 147 black and white photographs; author's dedicated signature to end paper facing half-title page: "Minnie Wingate with best wishes from Miriam Rothschild". Clean and tight text block with a little spotting to a few pages. Dust jacket condition: Near Fine minus: front cover picture of Walter Rothschild driving four zebras bearing carriage to Buckingham Palace and rear cover photograph of him bestride a Galapagos turtle; scuffs to spine tips and spotting to page edges; not price clipped (£14.95).
