Strange things are happening in Toby’s room.
There’s a cold spot under his bed. Wet footprints across the carpet. And a goldfish named Fettuccine who keeps dying… and coming back wrong.
So eleven-year-old Toby does the logical thing:
He writes to the Department of Ghosts.
To his surprise, the Department writes back.
Instead of solving his problem, Toby receives intake forms, a case number for Archive 13B, and a painfully polite clerk named Clarence G. Bonesworth—whose advice is enthusiastic, bureaucratic… and completely unhelpful.
But then something changes.
Someone—or something—is altering Toby’s file from inside the Department itself.
And his case isn’t the only one.
A girl is receiving letters in her dead grandmother’s handwriting. Other reports are being moved. Redacted. Reopened. Every file shares one chilling detail:
3:17 a.m.
Is the Department losing control of its own paperwork?
Or is Archive 13B storing more than just case files?
Told entirely through letters, memos, and redacted reports, Dear Department of Ghosts is a delightfully eerie middle-grade mystery for readers ages 9–13 who love slow-burn hauntings, dark humor, and tangled conspiracies.
Open the file.
Follow the paper trail.
Just remember: once you enter Archive 13B… the Department remembers you.
