The Vigilant Mercy was lost eight years ago.
All hands dead. No survivors. No recoverable archive.
The files were clean.
The files were wrong.
After the impossible return of the Harrow Saint, Captain Lena Cross knows the Union Naval Authority is hiding the truth about the dead ships appearing across the Orion Verge. Her report has been buried. The survivors have vanished into sealed custody. And the official record has already begun rewriting itself.
Then a second destroyed vessel returns.
The Vigilant Mercy, a hospital ship declared lost with all hands, reappears broadcasting live medical-priority traffic. Its systems are active. Its wounds are fresh. Its crew is alive.
But the bodies do not match the records cleanly.
Names, scars, biometrics, and service histories align just enough to be undeniable — and diverge just enough to be terrifying. As Lena boards the Mercy, she uncovers something worse than another impossible ship: a classified UNA protocol built to process returned personnel as recoverable strategic assets.
It has a name.
The Dead Crew Directive.
Now Lena must protect the survivors, preserve the evidence, and decide how far she is willing to defy the command structure she once trusted.
Because the dead are not coming back by accident.
And someone has been waiting for them.
The Dead Crew Directive is Book Two of The Pale Sequence, a dark military sci-fi space opera mystery series about dead warships, impossible survivors, erased histories, fleet conspiracies, classified military protocols, deep-space mysteries, and the human cost of owning the truth.
