Day by Day with St. Joseph is a compact devotional in the Spiritual Life Series that brings readers closer to St. Joseph through daily minute-long meditations, each featuring a Scripture passage, a brief reflection, and a concluding prayer. Begun by Msgr. Joseph Champlin and completed by Msgr. Kenneth Lasch to mark the publisher's 100th anniversary in 2011, this book offers numerous benefits for Catholics seeking spiritual growth and a deeper connection with the foster father of Jesus.
One key benefit is its focus on fostering a personal relationship with St. Joseph. The meditations highlight his virtues--humility, obedience, and trust in God--drawing from Scripture like Matthew 1:20, where an angel guides him to take Mary as his wife. Reflections build on these moments, encouraging readers to emulate his quiet strength, while prayers to St. Joseph invite his intercession, reinforcing his role as protector and guide (Catechism of the Catholic Church, CCC 532).

The book's brevity and portability enhance its practicality. At 4 x 61/4 inches, with a brown leatherette cover and ribbon marker, it's designed for busy lives. Each entry takes just a minute, making it ideal for morning prayer, a midday pause, or bedtime reflection. This accessibility helps readers establish a consistent prayer habit, a practice linked to increased spiritual resilience in studies like those from The Journal of Spirituality in Mental Health (2020).
Emotionally, it offers encouragement and peace. St. Joseph's example as a steadfast provider amid uncertainty--such as the flight to Egypt (Matthew 2:13-14)--resonates with modern struggles, while the prayers provide a channel for entrusting worries to him. This aligns with the Church's view of saints as companions in faith (CCC 956), offering comfort in daily trials.
Spiritually, it enriches devotion by tying readers to Catholic tradition. St. Joseph, Patron of the Universal Church, is celebrated through reflections that echo his significance in salvation history. The two-color illustrations and gold-stamped cover add a reverent touch, enhancing the meditative experience.
Ultimately, Day by Day with St. Joseph transforms routine prayer into a meaningful dialogue with a beloved saint. Its blend of Scripture, insight, and supplication empowers readers to live faith more fully, finding strength and inspiration in St. Joseph's holy example--one minute at a time.
