Some photographs preserve the truth.
Others are designed to bury it.
Twenty-two years ago, Sienna Ward took one final picture of her little sister at a crowded summer fair. Minutes later, Mabel vanished.
The photograph should have captured an ordinary afternoon: bright lights, sticky fingers, a child smiling beneath a painted sky. Instead, it became the last proof that Mabel had ever been there—and the wound Sienna’s family never learned to close.
Now a struggling photographer drowning in debt, Sienna is offered the commission of a lifetime. The powerful Vale family wants her to photograph Clara, their beautiful, carefully protected adopted daughter, inside the secluded halls of Evershade House.
It is the kind of opportunity Sienna cannot afford to refuse.
Then she notices the mark on Clara’s wrist.
A small crescent. Pale and unmistakable.
The same mark Mabel had as a child.
Sienna enters Evershade House searching for answers, but the deeper she looks, the less she trusts what she sees. Family portraits have been altered. Dates have been changed. Faces have disappeared from frames. And every elegant room seems to preserve a different version of the past.
The Vales insist Clara is their daughter.
Clara insists Sienna is mistaken.
But someone inside the house remembers what happened twenty-two years ago. Someone has spent decades turning stolen lives into family history. And someone will do anything to keep Sienna from developing the final photograph.
Because Clara may be the sister Sienna lost.
She may be another victim trapped inside an old lie.
Or she may be the only person in Evershade House who knows exactly what the frame was built to conceal.
Atmospheric, haunting, and filled with psychological twists, The Daughter in the Frame is a gothic domestic thriller about sisterhood, memory, and the terrifying cost of being claimed by the wrong family.
