"This brightly colored map of Europe, Asia, and much of Africa was illustrated by Stanley Turner and licensed by the advertising firm of C.C. Petersen of Toronto, Canada in 1945. It is one of over 30 different 'Dated Event' maps issued during the course of World War II that aided the public in following the course of the conflict across each theater. This example is identified as the Ninth Edition (though their numbering is often incongruous) and it was distributed shortly after the declaration of V-E Day in early May, 1945. The central image presents a pictorial map that highlights the vast swathes of territory captured by the Axis (green) and re-captured by the Allies (orange). Major events are noted throughout, along with locations of various military installations, natural resources, and relevant infrastructure. The border presents several insets that show the geographic expanse of historic empires like Rome, Persia, Napoleonic France, and the Mongols. This allows the audience to form their own opinions about the rapacious attitudes of the Axis leaders when compared to the likes of Caesar, Alexander the Great, and Darius.
