Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Painter/composer/bookmaker (the good kind) Tom Phillips spent years producing 138 prints for this illustrated accompaniment to Dante's classic tale. While the deluxe version would cost a mid-80s art lover some 10,000 pounds, this first popular American edition was priced far more reasonably. As ever, the practicalities of shelfwear have left their mark through the decades with light foxing to the crown and some rubbing and crimping of the (unclipped) dust jacket, but the care taken to preserve the bright, taut inner pages of the book itself feels even more pronounced by comparison.
