A high-energy picture book that teaches kids a real line-dance routine to boost their mood, build focus, and get their bodies moving like dinosaurs
Feeling tired, sluggish, or stuck? Sometimes kids don't need to calm down. They need to power up. Dance and Roar Like a Dinosaur gets kids on their feet with a simple, easy-to-follow line-dance routine set to a steady beat and playful rhythm, complete with stomps, wiggles, and moves that mimic a dinosaur. Every step is designed to help children shake off low energy, switch gears, and feel motivated, focused, and ready to take on whatever comes next. And by the final page? Those little dinos will be fully energized and ready to ROAR like a dancesaur.
This isn't just a silly dance book (though it is very silly). The movement routine in Dance and Roar Like a Dinosaur is built around up-regulation, a real self-regulation strategy that helps kids boost their energy and alertness when they're feeling flat, unfocused, or unmotivated. Line dancing is also naturally social, making it perfect for classrooms, playgroups, and family dance parties. A follow-up to Calm Your Roar Like a Dinosaur, this book gives kids the other half of the self-regulation toolbox: knowing how to bring energy up when it needs to go up, not just down. Includes a Reader's Note by the authors with more information on how movement helps kids regulate their energy and emotions.
Key features:
- teaches a real movement routine kids can use: a simple line-dance sequence with easy steps to help children boost energy, improve focus, and shift out of sluggish or unmotivated moods
- builds self-regulation skills through movement: introduces up-regulation, the ability to increase energy and alertness when needed, a critical and often overlooked part of emotional self-management
- dinosaur theme kids can't resist: stomping, roaring, and dancing like a dinosaur turns a real coping skill into a high-energy, laugh-out-loud experience kids will beg to repeat
- naturally social and interactive: line dancing encourages cooperation, rhythm, and connection, making this book ideal for group settings, classroom brain breaks, and family dance parties
- trusted publisher: from Magination Press, the children’s imprint of the American Psychological Association, dedicated to emotional well-being and healthy development
