"The important components of predator-prey models that are considered in some detail include (1) a density dependent, rather than constant, prey rate of increase, (2) various forms of functional response, (3) non-random search and predator interference, and (4) a predator rate of increase that is a function of the factors affecting predator survival, development rate, and fecundity. We then turn to more complex systems, involving in the first place polyphagous predators and how they can affect the coexistence of competing prey species, and secondly, interactions with more than one predator species, where the emphasis is on the conditions enabling the predators to coexist. The final chapter is devoted to biological control and in particular to the ways in which models discussed earlier in the book can contribute to a theoretical basis for biological control practices." [Preface] 237 pages, with tables, figures, Epilogue, Appendices, Bibliography, Author Index, Index to Genera, and Subject Index; plus vii pages prefatory matter.
