About this Item
3-ring binder, measuring about 10" x 11.5". Altogether there are about 30 8"x 10" photographs (three in color, the rest in black and white). Additionally, there are about 45 leaves of text, with varying content, mostly printed, but with some manuscript notations, discussed further below. Photographs in very good condition, well-preserved, though some avd a little corner creasing. Paper also in very condition, with similar wear. Binder in vrery good, sound condition. A focused and detailed photographic archive of a duck decoy carver and collector, with much supporting textual references and materials. The maker, Victor Bracher of Cleveland Heights, had an extensive collection, both of his own decoys, and of other makers. This binder is a kind of catalogue, filled with photographic images of his collection, along with catalog descriptions which identify both the type of duck and any notable physical attributes. There are pencilled prices next to many of these descriptions; presumably these are prices that Bracher charged prospective buyers to purchase them. A few invoices for materials used in the carving process are laid-in, which give a sense of how these were made, and what it cost the maker to produce them. Two mimeographed articles, laid-in at rear, are also of interes; one is a defense of waterfowl decoys as a genuine example of American folk art, while another is a solicitation for authors and artists to contribute content to the Ohio Decoy Collector's Association newsletter. Altogether a pleasing and informative visual archive of a discipline which exists at the intersection of fine art, ornithology, and outdoor sporting. Seller Inventory # 9203
