Donkey Handbook is a complete beginner-friendly guide for anyone who wants to understand, care for, train, and build a strong lifelong bond with a donkey. Donkeys are intelligent, gentle, hardworking, sensitive, and deeply loyal animals, but they have care needs that are different from horses and many other farm animals. This book helps readers understand those needs clearly, so they can provide the right feeding, housing, handling, health care, and daily management from the very beginning.
Inside this handbook, readers will discover how donkeys think, behave, communicate, learn, and respond to people. The guide explains why donkeys are often cautious instead of stubborn, why trust is essential in training, and how patient handling can create a calmer, safer, and more cooperative animal. It helps owners understand body language, social behavior, common habits, stress signals, and the emotional nature of donkeys, making it easier to care for them with confidence and kindness.
This book also covers practical donkey care in a clear and useful way. Readers will learn about proper feeding, weight control, pasture management, shelter, fencing, grooming, hoof care, dental care, parasite prevention, vaccination awareness, and routine health checks. It explains how to prevent common mistakes that can lead to obesity, laminitis, poor hoof condition, stress, boredom, or unsafe handling. Every section is designed to help new and growing owners make better decisions for their donkey’s comfort, safety, and long-term well-being.
Beyond basic care, Donkey Handbook also teaches the importance of responsible ownership and lifelong commitment. Donkeys can live for many years, so proper care is not a short-term responsibility. This guide helps readers plan for every stage of life, from young donkeys and working adults to senior animals that need extra comfort and support. It also encourages owners to build trust through patience, consistency, daily observation, and respectful training.
Benefits of this book include:
Learning how to properly feed and manage a donkey’s diet for long-term health
Understanding donkey behavior, body language, emotions, and learning patterns
Discovering how to create safe housing, shelter, fencing, and turnout areas
Gaining practical knowledge about grooming, hoof care, dental care, and health management
Learning how to train donkeys with patience, trust, and positive handling methods
Understanding how to prevent common care mistakes and recognize early warning signs
Building a stronger bond through calm interaction, routine, and respectful communication
Supporting your donkey’s comfort, confidence, and quality of life through every life stage
Written for first-time donkey owners, small farm keepers, homesteaders, animal lovers, students, and anyone interested in responsible donkey ownership, Donkey Handbook offers a clear and practical path to better care. It presents important information in a simple, organized, and easy-to-follow style, making it helpful for complete beginners while still useful for readers who already have experience with donkeys.
