8vo. 5.5 x 8.75 inches. [x] + 293 pp. Bound in original green cloth, gilt, in pictorial dust wrapper. A very good copy. Illustrated by maps, facsimile and black and white photographs. Pictorial endpapers. Devices of publisher and Imperial War Museum on title page. The compelling war dairies of the military chaplain, John Kenneth Best (1887-1981), who followed his troops into the front line of the disastrous Gallipoli campaign of 1915; he was invalided home with dysentery and later served on the Western Front. Edited by Gavin Roynon (1936-2018), cricketeer, teacher at Eton and military historian, who published two other volumes of First World War diaries. Founded by Patrick Marrin's father George in 1946, Marrin's Bookshop has been based in its current Folkestone location since 1963. Patrick has worked in bookselling since 1970.
