Published in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, for the builder John Straphen, this is a rare 16 page pamphlet on the building and description of Lord Hill?s Column in Shrewsbury, the 133 foot tall doric column built from local Grinshill stone, Built to commemorate General Rowland Hill, 1st Viscount Hill, GCB, GCH (11 August 1772 ? 10 December 1842) was a British Army officer who served in the Napoleonic Wars as a brigade, division and corps commander. He became Commander-in-Chief of the British Army in 1828. and fought with The Duke of Wellington in the Peninsula War this copy bound without the illustrated plate. 7.25 inches tall approx. covers a little soiled with some corner creasing, some dustiness and marking to page corners within with some creasing wear lacks the plate as mentioned else in good general condition VERY SCARCE.
