Your processes are mostly mature. Your decisions probably aren’t. And that gap is where the next decade of operational performance will be won or lost.
Over twenty years of Lean, Six Sigma and process excellence have made organisations remarkably good at improving processes. AI has changed what scarcity looks like. Information is no longer expensive, decisions are no longer few, and the old question - How do we make this process more efficient? - is no longer the one that matters most.
The question now is: Are we making the right decisions, consistently, at the moments that matter?
The Decision-Centric Enterprise is a practical guide for operations directors, transformation leaders and executives responsible for improving how organisations actually perform in the age of AI.
The book opens with Maya, a claims handler whose desk hasn’t changed in ten years, but whose work has. The routine cases that once filled her day have been absorbed by automation. What remains is judgement - all day, every day. Her story captures the central argument of the book: AI rarely removes work. It redistributes where the hard thinking happens.
From there, Thomas Thron introduces a practical framework for building organisations around better decisions rather than better processes. You’ll learn how to:
• Identify the few decisions that matter most using a simple prioritisation method based on frequency, stakes and room for improvement.
• Improve decision quality using six practical dimensions, while recognising the trade-offs that every important decision requires.
• Design effective human-AI decision systems, choosing deliberately where judgement belongs instead of drifting into accidental operating models.
• Lead organisational change by understanding how decision systems redistribute influence, expertise and status—and why resistance is often rational.
• Build tomorrow’s experts when AI has automated away the routine work that traditionally created them.
Every chapter includes practical diagnostics and “Apply This Tomorrow” exercises, building into a seventeen-artefact Field Manual that includes a decision inventory, decision mapping templates, quality assessments, decision rights matrices, maturity models, implementation roadmaps, change tools and pre-mortems. Fully worked examples from insurance, pharmaceutical manufacturing and supply chain show how the approach transfers across industries.
Unlike many AI books that either inspire without explaining how to act or disappear into technical detail, The Decision-Centric Enterprise stays focused on what AI actually changes: the cost, speed and scale of decisions. It is equally clear about what AI does not change. Judgement, responsibility, trust and accountability remain fundamentally human.
Whether you’re running a manufacturing operation, a claims function, a supply chain, or an enterprise transformation programme, this book provides a practical roadmap for the next stage of operational excellence.
Lean gave us the process map.
The AI era needs the decision map.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
