First book publication of this mystery, set on a Louisiana plantation, originally published as a serial in The Saturday Evening Post, and the basis for the 1944 film starring Merle Oberon and Franchot Tone. Movie tie-in edition, illustrated with four stills from the film, a photograph of Oberon on the front cover of the dust jacket and 4 other scenes on the back cover. 191 pp. Very good in teal boards (usual age-toning to the pages) in a fair only dust jacket with creasing, edgewear and some loss to the ends of the spine.
