Neuware - 'D. H. Lawrence: A First Study' is a seminal work of literary criticism that offers one of the earliest comprehensive examinations of the life and philosophy of the influential English writer D. H. Lawrence. Written by Stephen Potter and released in the immediate wake of Lawrence's death, this study delves into the recurring themes of vitality, nature, and the human psyche that define Lawrence's controversial and groundbreaking oeuvre. Potter provides a nuanced analysis of Lawrence's major novels, poetry, and essays, seeking to understand the man behind the prose. The book explores Lawrence's unique vision of the modern world and his rebellion against industrialization and Victorian morality. By examining the spiritual and psychological depth of Lawrence's characters, Potter illuminates how the author reshaped the landscape of 20th-century literature. This work serves as both an introduction for new readers and a critical touchstone for scholars of Modernism. It remains a vital piece of literary history, capturing the immediate intellectual response to one of the most polarizing and brilliant figures in English letters. Potter's insightful prose captures the raw energy and complex intellect that Lawrence brought to his writing, making it an essential read for anyone interested in the development of the modern novel. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
