About the Author
Julie Phend holds a B.A. in English and Theater from Valparaiso University and an M.S. in Education from the University of Wisconsin. She taught language arts at Lincoln Junior High in Naperville, Illinois, where Stanley Edwards spoke to her students about his World War II experiences, which inspired this book. Ms. Phend, now retired from teaching, lives and writes in Virginia with her husband Jack. They have two children, four grandchildren, and a lively little dog.
