Illustrated with Twenty-four Portraits on Steel, and Many Hundred Wood Engravings." Published by D. Appleton and Company, 1858. Volume II only, of 2 volumes. This volume features the writings of James Hogg, John Wilson, Thomas Hood, Charles Lamb, Charles Dickens, George Cruikshank, Thomas Ingoldsby, Albert Smith, Sidney Smith, and Douglass Jerrold. All portraits present. Brown cloth with gilt cover illustration and spine titling and decoration is a bit rubbed and subtly stained with some scratches to back cover. Corners heavily bumped and fraying, edges rubbed, head and tail of spine shelf worn and fraying. Gilt decorations are somewhat rubbed, but cover illustration is still bright, spine is dulled. Tiniest wormhole to front cover joint right in the middle. Foxing to endpapers with heavy foxing to front matter and portrait pages. Interior is age-toned with some soiling here and there throughout.
