Paperback. Custom Lettering of the 20s and 30s is a celebration of the stunning and stylistically varied headline lettering that existed before the advent of phototypesetting or the computer. This unique publication collects over 4,500 examples of custom lettering from the heyday of Art Deco and the experimental modernity of the Futurists from geometric sans, elegant brush scripts, and heavy industrial serifs to hand-drawn eccentricities and outre display type. A cornerstone of any type-lovers library. Featured in Format Magazine's "Best New Graphic Design Books in 2017" here. "the typographic detritus of the Western commercial world, neatly stuffed into one volume as a reliquary of kitsch." New York Times Book Review "the most thumbed-through book in my collection. A constant source of inspiration. I recommend it to anyone remotely interested in type."
