About the Author
Prof. Mahdi Karkush is President of Iraqi Scientific Geotechnical Society and Professor of Civil Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering at University of Baghdad, Iraq. He received his Ph.D. in Civil Geotechnical Engineering from University of Baghdad, Iraq in 2008. He pursued his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from University of Babylon, Iraq in 1995 and M.Sc. in Civil Structural Engineering from University of Babylon, Iraq in 1998. He is Member of the editorial board of several world scientific journals and scientific and organizing committees of several conferences. His outstanding research works in the fields of geoenvironmental engineering and sustainability in geotechnical engineering, foundation engineering, and geomechanics. He is Fellow of the Iraqi Engineers Association (IEA), Iraq, International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), UK, Fulbright scholar, USA, DAAD scholar, Germany, Swinburne Scholar, Australia, and L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Kazakhstan.
Prof. Deepankar Choudhury is Prof. T. Kant Chair Professor and former Head of Civil Engineering Department at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai, India. Always 1st class 1st Gold Medalist in academics, he received Ph.D. in Civil Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering from IISc Bangalore, India, in 2002 and received Prof. G. A. Leonard's Best PhD Thesis Award from IGS. Prof. Choudhury worked as a faculty member at IIT Kanpur before joining IIT Bombay in 2003 and mentored two new IITs, Gandhinagar in 2009 and Dharwad in 2017. He was also a Visiting Faculty/Fellow at NUS Singapore, UoW Australia, UC Berkeley USA, Kagoshima University Japan, TU Darmstadt Germany, INU South Korea. Prof. Choudhury is a Humboldt Fellow of Germany, JSPS Fellow of Japan, TWAS-VS Fellow of Italy. He has authored over 300 technical publications including about 180 peer-reviewed journal papers, which are highly cited. He has supervised over 35 Ph.D. students. He is Editor-in-Chief of Indian Geotechnical Journal, Springer; Associate Editor of ASCE-International Journal of Geomechanics and served as editorial board member of several world class journals like Soils and Foundations (Elsevier), Canadian Geotechnical Journal, Geotechnical and Geological Engineering (Springer), Geomechanics and Engineering (Techno-Press) etc. He is Fellow of the ASCE, USA (F.ASCE), Fellow of The National Academy of Sciences, India (FNASc), Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (FNAE), Fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences (FASc), Fellow of Institution of Engineers, India (FIE), Indian Geotechnical Society (FIGS), Indian Society of Earthquake Technology (FISET). His outstanding research works in the domain of Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering, Foundation Engineering and Computational Geomechanics are highly cited and implemented in various field problems through mega projects. His course lectures through NPTEL are highly popular and he is recipient of multiple Excellence in Teaching Awards in addition to several research awards. He was Secretary of TC-207 and TC-212 of ISSMGE. He serves as expert member for several national and international committees of repute including various design code committees. A globe trotter with visit of over 35 countries, Prof. Choudhury delivered plenary/keynote/invited lectures in various reputed conferences across the globe.

Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer you can withdraw from the contract in accordance with the following. Consumer means any natural person who is acting for purposes which are outside his trade, business, craft or profession.
Information regarding the right of withdrawal
Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to Ria Christie Collections, Uxbridge, United Kingdom, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
- The delivery of newspapers, journals or magazines with the exception of subscription contracts; and
- The supply of digital content which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to deliver it, and that you could not withdraw once delivery had started.
