1866. Second edition. vii, 62pp., a colour frontispiece and a 2-page catalogue. The author(s) of this book is not stated but we believe it be prepared by George Edwin Roberts and Henry Porter. The principal object of the book is to furnish a collection of recipes for the brewing of compound drinks, technically called "Cups," all of which have been selected with attention to the rules of gastronomy. It can be regarded as an early cocktail book, and also includes a brief history of drinking across the world. The book is bound in the original dark green cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and black titling on the front board (the titling describes the book as "Drinking Cups and Their Customs"). The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and light soiling on the boards and some patchy fading, possibly from water splashes, near the spine and top edges of the front board. There is a little bubbling to the cloth near the bottom edge of the front board. The spine is slightly faded and the spine ends are lightly bumped. The contents are tight and clean with some light foxing to pages 30 to 38 and the endpapers. There is no inscription. Seller Inventory # gVIDrink01
