Description:
Ink, watercolor and gouache on xerograph. Fabric swatches attached with staples. Sheet measures 12.25" x 8.5". This original croquis from the designer Pierre Balmain was made from a xerograph of an original drawing circa 1960. Text in French describes, "Pea flower pleated dress in white shantung lined with black surah with white dots. Jacket in the same fabric also lined with black surah with white dots". Swatches of the appropriate fabrics, are stapled to the sheet. These sketches were produced in a limited quantity and presented to potential clients in attendance at the Paris Couture shows held by Balmain in the spring and fall of each year.
