Slight forward lean, modest external wear, some hand-soil to covers, early (1929) ink inscription to front endpaper, with a medium-sized loss to lower right corner of same; text is foxed throughout; complete and Very Good, lacking the dustjacket. A detailed study of criminals and their ways by a former Detective-Inspected at Scotland Yard. "This book was not written with a view to detail my own personal experiences, but to afford information to the inexperienced who, in placing their feet on the ladder of life, may be influenced to climb up and attain respect, comfort and happiness, rather than sink to a course of life that entails disgrace, contempt and misery. In selecting my stories I have included those which afford a certain measure of knowledge of the ways and methods of "crooks" in pursuing their nefarious course of livelihood, in the hope that these may prove to be a danger beacon, which will cause young men and women to pause and ponder before being tempted into positions that may lead to crime" (p.10).…
