Synopsis:
Crime Prevention: Approaches, Practices, and Evaluations explores research on crime prevention. The principles and strategies discussed are categorically organized as primary, secondary, and tertiary preventions. Primary prevention is designed to prevent conditions that foster deviance, secondary prevention is for conditions and persons with a high potential for deviance, and the tertiary category is for persons who have already committed offences.
The book is divided into three sections all of which are based on the three levels of crime prevention. The introductory part of the book covers the crime and its fundamentals such as victimization, the costs of crime, divergent findings about crime and fear, and the development of crime prevention and evaluation. Section 1 presents primary prevention and its principles and methods; sections 2 and 3 cover secondary and tertiary prevention, respectively, including discussions about situational prevention, partnerships for crime prevention and the politics of prevention procedures. The chapters in each section include up-to-date tables and outlines, key terms, learning objectives, Web links and glossary.
