The use of alliteration helps give a poetic slant to the text, and the phrase, "Then, on little sheep feet, six creepy sheep went a-haunting" is repeated with each sheep disappearance, allowing the reader to have an idea of what will happen next (making it less scary). You will laugh at the silliness of the sheep.
