Review
Comments from current [and previous] editions.
This is another fine text from the successful 'Crash Course' series. It is presented in a different format to the other preclinical 'Crash Course' titles. Part I takes the reader through the principles of the subject, with topics such as inflammation, tissue damage/repair, neoplasia, infection and inherited disease. Part II examines the pathological disorders involving each organ system, whilst also incorporating important clinical aspects. Part III is a self-assessment section that provides a good range of multiple-choice, short-answer and essay questions.
The text is concise and clear, whilst also readable and easy to understand throughout. There are numerous diagrams and summary tables, which help to commit the facts to memory and allow quick access to information. Hints and tips boxes highlight key facts and common exam questions.
One useful addition would have been some macroscopic or microscopic photographic images of the processes and disorders discussed, which are often a key part in understanding the pathology involved.
Nonetheless, it provides a succinct, simple, affordable introduction and revision aid to the subject of pathology.
Amazon reviewer, 2004
I wanted a concise book that gave me most of the things that could go wrong with the human body in as little detail as possible but still easy to understand and this is it. Even though it is aimed at medical students its still an excellent resource book for other medical staff.
AK Bentley, Amazon 2005
This book covers the essentials of the pathology. While in no way a complete text on pathology this book sorts the wheat from the chaff and gives you all the facts you need in a simple format that doesn't involve double negatives or a degree in Latin. It's easy to use and great for refreshing your memory or revising, because it is written by students for students. One of my favourite features is the multiple choice questions in the back, which you can use to test your knowledge and understanding. So it's a nice and handy book to help you study for an exam, but it's not a complete textbook so if you are looking for that look further.
All the Crash Course texts present their subjects in a sharp, concise and easy to follow manner. The text is well spaced, and complemented with illustrations wherever appropriate. The layout is clear and logical. The language is simple and the facts are being presented almost in note form, which is a key feature of this series, enabling the student to absorb facts more easily without overwhelming the reader. And when you think you are ready for the exam you can test your knowledge by filling in multiple choice, short answers and extended matching questions which are in every crash course title. This series is the best way to prepare for an exam and I would recommend it to everyone.

Excellent book that is essential for easy pathology revision. Simplifies pathology lectures and has summaries in tables. A must for exam time!
Donna McCartan, Medical Student, 2009
I bought this book because to be perfectly honest pathology is hard, not exactly taxing on the intellect, but hard in a 'oh my gosh I need to memorise this' kind of way. Exams looming I needed a good list of key facts to know- and this book delivers. It appears to be very concise yet at the same time comprehensive (!) being able to cover, even if just in lip-service every disease known. All in all, this is a really good book for the time-starved medical student.
