Crafting Revision in Academic Writing: One Word Strengthens an Argument challenges the idea that academic writing is best learned through rigid templates, surface-level correctness, or one-time drafts. Instead, this book positions revision as the central intellectual activity of academic writing, where students learn to clarify ideas, align structure with argument, and make purposeful rhetorical choices. Designed for undergraduate university writers, the book guides students through drafting, revising, and re-seeing their work with an emphasis on global revision, sentence-level refinement, and genre awareness. Rather than presenting academic writing as a fixed set of rules, the text frames it as a series of decisions shaped by audience, purpose, and disciplinary context. Through clear explanations, real student writing examples, and guided revision strategies, this volume helps students move beyond compliance-based writing toward clarity, confidence, and ownership of their academic voice.…
