Print on Demand. This book boldly exposes the corrupt practices and political machinations that plagued the Buchanan Administration during the run-up to the Civil War. The author meticulously presents evidence of rampant misuse of federal funds, patronage, and influence-peddling, which extended from the White House to obscure government offices. The book places this corruption within the broader context of the tumultuous political battles of the time, particularly the intense struggle over the expansion of slavery into new territories. By shedding light on these troubling episodes, the author compellingly demonstrates how political expediency and personal ambition combined to undermine the very fabric of American democracy. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.

Regarding the construction of the first clause of the resolution as one involving the abuse of the power of the government by any cffi cer thereof, your committee find upon examination that as early as the 8th of February, 1826, the following resolution was submitted to the Senate by Mr. Macon, and adopted.
