Paperback. Enter the uncompromising world of Gustave Courbet (18191877), the bold French painter who rejected academic convention and placed ordinary people, labor, landscapes, and everyday experience at the center of serious art. This pocket guide explores the life of the artist who became the leading voice of Realism and whose independent spirit challenged the artistic establishment of his time. Discover what to look for in Courbets physical paint handling, monumental compositions, rich surfaces, and unidealized subjects. Biographical insights, lively anecdotes, memorable quotations, and a personal portrait reveal the convictions behind his often-controversial career. A spotlight on one of his defining masterpieces examines how he changed the direction of nineteenth-century painting. Featuring more than 65 full-color reproductions, this accessible guide presents Courbet as both a powerful observer of modern life and a crucial precursor of artistic independence. Shipping may be from our Sydney, NSW warehouse or from our UK or US warehouse, depending on stock availability.…
