Paperback. What makes someone leave the country they love? What keeps others rooted in place? And why do emigrants so often find themselves caught between gratitude and grief?Countryversial is a candid, deeply personal exploration of the South African emigration experience-told with honesty, humour, and the kind of clarity that only comes years after the decision was made. From gated estates and small-town thinking to open-plan offices, citizenship ceremonies, and the quiet shock of safety, this book traces the emotional and practical journey of starting over in Australia. It is not a political argument. It is not a complaint. It is a reflection on identity, belonging, and the uncomfortable truths we discover when we step outside the world we once assumed was normal.Insightful, provocative, and unexpectedly moving, Countryversial is for anyone who has left, anyone who has stayed, and anyone who has ever wondered what it really costs-and what it truly gives-to begin again.
