In this elementary book the United States is the field covered. In history, the text covers the colonial period, the westward movement, and the problems of the pioneers - all the simpler phases of our history that can be mastered in the elementary schools. The geography introduces them to the United States of today, including descriptions of the simple industries and concrete comparisons of the former days with the present time. In the form of simple social problems suggested by stories of settlement and problems of pres ent day social life, an elementary introduction to civics is also achieved.
