Paperback. In the Blue Ridge Mountains, retired engineer Richard has spent decades learning the quiet language of the land: the routes deer follow, the habits of hawks, the signs that weather is turning. But when his withdrawn sixteen-year-old grandson Eli is sent to stay with him, the solitude Richard has built around himself begins to shift. What starts as an uneasy arrangement becomes something more consequential when Eli chooses a science project on wildlife corridor mapping. Working together, the two document the hidden migration routes crossing Richard's property-paths now threatened by a proposed resort development already approved by county officials. Richard trusts experience; Eli trusts evidence. As their work reveals just how vital the corridor is, grandfather and grandson find themselves not only mapping wildlife movement, but also rethinking what can be preserved, what must change, and what it means to truly pay attention.Quiet, atmospheric, and deeply rooted in Appalachian realism, The Corridor is a novel about generational distance, environmental stewardship, landscapes, memory, and the unexpected ways two generations can change each other.
