Original engraved map colored in outline. 16 1/4 by 13 inches. A rare and early map of the state issued in Vol. 1 of the 1797 first edition of Benjamin Trumbull's "History of Connecticut" opposite the title page. The map includes towns, roads, courthouses, meeting places, river, lakes, islands, etc. County lines are colored in outline. There is an engraved cartouche with the state arms in the lower corner. The map was folded for insertion in the book. The map is in good condition with some surface browning and some chipping to the blank outer margins. There is a 2-inch closed tear (no loss) at the right side and a 1-inch closed tear at the left. The outer margins of the map have some smaller chips and tears. THOMSPON 43. WHEAT & BRUN 291.
