Corns usually will not bite, constrict, or defecate under mild stress like other snakes. From corn snake experts Bill Love and Kathy Love and Advanced Vivarium System, the definitive source on reptile and amphibian care, comes the most comprehensive information available on keeping and breeding corn snakes. Corn Snakes: The Comprehensive Owner's Guide satisfies the needs of both the novice and the seasoned veteran of guttata culture, offering the latest on breeding, genetics, and the range and history of color and pattern variations, as well as the basics of feeding and care.

What is the best kind of pet snake in the entire world? If you guessed corn snake, you're in good company!
Ideally, the best snake (1) has a calm disposition around people, i.e., it isn't prone to biting, constricting, or defecating under mild stress; (2) has an attractive appearance to humans; (3) is a convenient size to handle and enjoy as a pet; (4) has space, climate, and food requirements that are easy to provide in captivity; (5) does not pose a physical danger to people; (6) is easy to induce to reproduce and raise offspring; and (7) is genetically variable to stimulate continued fascination and expansion of interest in herpetoculture. Corn snakes pass all these tests admirably!
The intended audience for this book spans everyone from the novice needing the basics of feeding and housing care to the seasoned veteran of "guttata culture" who wants to know the latest on breeding, genetics, and the range and history of color and pattern variations. The book's 224 pages are packed with information about keeping corn snakes, from acclimatizing your new snake to its environment to supporting your snake's shedding cycle to stimulating your snake's appetite and dealing with mites, respiratory disorders, and more. The color and pattern variations section is packed with full-color photos of stunning corn snake varieties from the high-contrast Okeetee to the red and white candycane to the fiery lava to the grayscale charcoal.
