The conceptual foundation is laid by a reference architecture for an integrated environment for authoring and learning. • Authoring/learning as the central topic;

• The system kernel, based on object orientation and hypermedia;
• Distributed multimedia support;
• Cooperation support, and
• Reusable instructional design support.
