Explore the Coolidge X-Ray Tube: reliable power, precise control, and proven design for radiography and therapy.
The book explains how the filament can be heated either by a storage battery or a transformer. It covers how to choose a heating method based on the available electrical supply and how to monitor filament current for stable, repeatable results.
It guides operation with different high‑tension sources and discusses how to control output. The text compares resistance and auto‑transformer controls and recommends using an auto‑transformer for diagnostic work, with a circuit breaker on the primary side for safety.
- Heating options for the cathode: storage battery or transformer, with notes on voltage, current, and stability.
- High‑voltage power sources and rectification: static machines, induction coils, or transformers, plus guidance on rectified versus unrectified current.
- Tube capacity and focal spots: fine, medium, and broad focus, plus current and energy limits to protect the tube and ensure image quality.
- Radiator versus universal designs: how heat is managed, target cooling, and suitability for different radiographic tasks, including dental work.
Ideal for readers of historical medical physics or engineers seeking practical, era‑specific radiography guidance.
