Item description from seller

Paperback. A Convict's Perspective is a product of T. Lamont Baker's vow to keep potent traditions of critique and resistance alive. It reflects his awareness of, and responsiveness to, mainstream paradigms, viewpoints and practices, as well as his grounding in validating and empowering platforms of criticism. This test examines the efforts of bureaucrats to reform delinquents and illuminates administrative measures aimed at convict habilitation, while simultaneously complementing academic approaches to penology and recidivism reduction. Baker forces his readers to question why it is that this field of study has for so long remained impenetrable by the artillery that is best aimed and fired by progressive intellectual freedom fighters: Scrutiny. Presented by an imprisoned millennial and co-founder of Incarcerated Thinkers (confined yet literate pragmatists who are passionate about creating, energizing and sustaining high-quality public discourse), A Convict's Perspective is a must-read for all established and aspiring criminologists who have a sincere appreciation of the Life of the Mind. About the Author

T. Lamont Baker was born in Durham, NC in 1986. He has been incarcerated since age nineteen. At the onset of his imprisonment, he made a conscious decision to cultivate his mind and elevate his intellect. He embarked upon a spiritual and intellectual journey that has taken him through fields such as Christianity, Buddhism, feminism, political science, African-American history, accounting and business management amongst others.. While on such a journey, he unknowingly accumulated the knowledge and experience that has since solidified his status as an iconoclastic penologist and leading Incarcerated Thinker. A Convict’s Perspective is confirmation that T. Lamont Baker is very worthy of such a status. It’s a testament of the potential of incarcerated souls, a reprimand of a prison system that won’t allow people like Baker to reach the peaks of such potential, and a razor-sharp critique of the academics charged with studying prison mechanisms. It’s sure to garner some well-deserved attention. Originally, Baker wrote this book hoping to sell enough copies to fund his post-secondary and tertiary education. However, he now sees that A Convict’s Perspective is poised to disrupt and refine the ways in which traditional penologists, criminologists, and prison officials view, approach, and seek to actualize prisoner reform. He now sees the role that his writings can and should play in the evolution of penology as a field of study. This vision is most appealing to him. This vision is what is compelling this self-taught Millennial to transform the prison system; it’s what makes him believe that prison can go from being a criminogenic gladiator school to being a radical organic university that creates high-quality, law-abiding citizens. Baker’s stance, along with several other factors, verify that he is both a foresightful intellectual and a skilled debater who speaks intelligently with passion and conviction when discussing the need to extract his fellow convicts from the sticky web of criminality. I implore all who read A Convict’s Perspective to engage T. Lamont Baker first-hand and allow yourself to be impressed by his tenacious spirit, challenged by his provocative ideas and touched by his humanitarian essence.
