We all have them. The conversations that replay on loop after someone leaves. The perfect thing you should have said. The question you never got to ask. The answer you already know but can't stop imagining.
Conversations We Never Had by Jodie Armour is a debut chapbook of dialogue poems that live in that space. The imagined exchange between two people after the real ones have ended. Sharp and tender, funny and devastating, these poems unfold in two voices that push and pull against each other with the intimacy of people who knew each other too well and not quite well enough.
We have these conversations in the car. At 3 a.m. Over a glass of wine we poured to stop thinking about them and then spent thinking about nothing else.
Written without proper nouns, each poem belongs to anyone who has ever loved badly, loved well, or loved someone who didn't quite know how to love them back.
For anyone who has ever loved someone difficult, lost someone necessary, or found themselves talking to a person who wasn't there.
Conversations We Never Had is published by Caffeinated Muse Press.
