- Book 2 of 3: Summer Diamond
Someone is manipulating the numbers that could end his career. She is the analyst whose name is attached to them.
Nicola Lucas came to Summer Diamond to rebuild a data system nobody trusts.
After watching her work twisted against her own brother at a previous analytics company, Nicola has one rule she refuses to compromise.
Evidence comes before conclusions.
Then she finds veteran catcher Muthoni Muriuki inside an altered contract model.
Thirty-four years old. Twelve seasons behind the plate. Player representative. One of the strongest voices demanding permanent rights over how the club uses player data.
And suddenly the numbers suggest keeping him may be too expensive.
Muthoni knows exactly what happens when organisations turn assumptions into facts.
A confidential report leaks before the club can investigate. Trade rumors spread across the league. Other teams begin calling his agent, and the language used to describe his supposed decline comes directly from an internal model he was never supposed to see.
Nicola freezes the process.
Muthoni refuses to stay out of the investigation.
Neither trusts the other enough to call it partnership.
Then a secret meeting with a former analyst is photographed.
The media sees a veteran player leaving an airport hotel with the woman connected to his contract data.
Explaining the truth could expose their source.
So Nicola chooses the only solution she hates more than losing control of the story.
They pretend to be together.
Three weeks.
Strict professional boundaries.
A public relationship that ends the moment the evidence is safe.
And absolutely no confusing years of friction with attraction.
Except Muthoni is her brother's teammate.
He challenges every conclusion Nicola makes.
She is one of the few people willing to tell him when loyalty is being used against him.
And every staged touch makes it harder to remember which part of their relationship was supposed to be fake.
As manipulated reports, copied credentials and an old professional betrayal begin connecting to a hidden system designed to measure how inconvenient a player is to control, Muthoni faces a trade offer that could guarantee his future.
Nicola faces proof that the work she once created may have been transformed into the very weapon now threatening him.
Choosing each other could complicate everything.
But walking away may mean allowing someone else to decide what both of their futures are worth.
Control Between Us is a high heat contemporary baseball romance featuring fake dating, a veteran catcher, data analyst heroine, teammate’s sister, rivals to lovers chemistry, professional tension, trade rumors, forced public proximity, workplace attraction, emotional healing and a complete happily ever after.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
