Item description from seller

Second edition, revised, fourth thousandth of Darwin's first book after On the Origin of Species. Darwin’s first detailed botanical work, this study of orchid pollination provided striking evidence for natural selection by showing how complex floral structures evolved to ensure cross-fertilisation. A key complement to On the Origin of Species. (Freeman 800) London: John Murray, 1888. Publisher's original green cloth, spine lettered in gilt; pp. xvi, 300 + 32 ads. Illustrated throughout with woodcuts and tables. A very good or better copy. Binding remains tight and sturdy, minimal wear to boards. Text block edges and endpapers foxed, else internally quite clean. A very presentable copy.
