Heavy engineering projects rarely fail because of engineering alone. They encounter difficulties when contracts, costs, schedules, risks, claims, financing and stakeholder responsibilities are not administered as one coordinated system.

CONTRACT ADMINISTRATION FOR HEAVY ENGINEERING PROJECTS FROM CONCEPTION TO COMMISSIONING provides a practical framework for managing complex engineering and infrastructure contracts throughout the complete project lifecycle. It connects contractual obligations with project controls, commercial management and the realities of project execution.

Written for professionals working across construction, infrastructure, energy, oil and gas and industrial development, the book explains how to establish effective contract-administration systems from project conception, procurement and mobilisation through construction, testing, commissioning and final closeout.

Readers will learn how to:

• Develop an effective contract-administration strategy
• Interpret contractual obligations and allocate responsibilities
• Integrate scope, cost, schedule and risk controls
• Administer variations, change orders and payment processes
• Maintain notices, records and contemporaneous documentation
• Evaluate delays, extensions of time and disruption claims
• Identify and manage commercial and contractual risks
• Support project-finance and cash-flow requirements
• Prevent disputes and strengthen claim defensibility
• Manage testing, commissioning, handover and contract closeout

The book combines established principles with practical procedures, management controls, checklists and professional guidance. It is designed to help project teams move beyond reactive contract management and establish disciplined systems that protect contractual rights while supporting successful project delivery.

It is an essential reference for project managers, contract and commercial managers, project-control professionals, quantity surveyors, engineers, consultants, contractors, employers, claims specialists, financiers and other professionals responsible for delivering capital-intensive projects.

From conception to commissioning, this guide demonstrates that effective contract administration is not merely an administrative obligation—it is a central component of project governance, commercial protection and successful delivery.
