Print on Demand. This book is a captivating exploration of the ways in which societal anxieties about witchcraft and heresy spread through the legal and ecclesiastical systems of Medieval England. The author, an expert medievalist, traces the evolution of the witch craze from its origins in Anglo-Saxon beliefs through its development into a major concern for the Church and state in the Later Middle Ages. Focusing on the persecution of Alice Kyteler in 1324, the book illustrates the ways in which accusations of witchcraft were used to settle personal and political scores, and how they reflected the broader social and religious tensions of the time. The author's deep knowledge of the period and meticulous research provide a rich and nuanced account of this fascinating and tragic episode in English history, shedding light on the complex interplay between superstition, fear, and the law. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…
