Full vellum, with vignettes painted in grisaille on front (two angels with trumpets) and back (young man with musical score), each framed within a gilt and green wash pentaglyph and metope roll border. Gilt lattice pattern to spine with gilt titling over dark blue wash background and gilt and green wash greek key near foot (rubbed). Exposed cords at joints. Gilt board edges and gilt greek key turn-ins. All edges gilt, with fore-edge painting of an English country estate on a riverbank. Pink endpapers. Green silk bookmark. Bookplate on verso of front endpaper ("Marion C. Walker"). With original green morocco slipcase, ruled in gilt (bottom slightly split). Housed in custom quarter morocco clamshell case. liv, [2], 85, [86, blank], [2], 280, engraved frontispiece. Edwards of Halifax binding with rare original slipcase Paris: sumptibus Lamy, 1783.
