Print on Demand. This book comprehensively explores the mathematical theory and practical applications of conformal image warping, a technique used to deform and map images in a way that preserves angles and shapes. The author provides a thorough introduction to conformal mappings, their history, and the key concepts behind their use in image processing. The book also includes detailed explanations of various conformal mapping methods, such as the Riemann mapping theorem and numerical techniques like the Symm algorithm, which are essential for understanding the practical implementation of conformal warping. Additionally, the author delves into the applications of conformal image warping in computer graphics, particularly in the mapping of textures onto complex surfaces, and in visual cortex modeling, where it is used to represent the mapping of the retina onto the brain's visual cortex. Through this exploration, the book showcases the significance of conformal image warping in various fields and its potential for further advancements in image processing and computer graphics. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

The Riemann mapping theorem guarantees existence and uniqueness of conformal mappings between regions. Given a region, there exists a conformal mapping of this region onto the unit disk. The mapping is made unique by fixing the mapping of a single point in the region onto the center of the unit disk, and fixing the orientation of the unit disk (see appendix 1 for a discussion of the Riemann mapping theorem).
