Item description from seller

568 p.: 4 plates; 19 cm. Publisher's red moire cloth with printed paper spine label. Dark brown endpapers. "Hédouin Edition" -- at head of spine label. Lacking title page and containing only 4 plates, rather than the 13 called for on the spine label; text is complete. Price on spine label is ten shillings and sixpence, indicating that it was probably published in London, possibly by William Glaisher. Former owner's inscription on front free endpaper: "Philip Bayard, April, 1896." Philip Bayard (1872-1911) was descended from a long line of political and financial leaders in Philadelphia and Delaware. From 1906 (or earlier) to 1908 he served as American Vice Consul General in Morocco. Tragically, he died in 1911, having jumped or fallen from the third-floor window of a hospital in Washington, D.C. Lacking title page and containing only 4 plates, rather than the 13 called for on the spine label; otherwise, in Very Good- Condition: lower corner of spine label lacking without loss of text; spine slightly soiled; dampstain along upper edge of last 2 plates and final pages; otherwise, clean and tight.
