Print on Demand. This book covers the methods of play for the card game Whist, as given by standard authorities, modified by American leads that have met with general acceptance. The author aims to present these principles in a concise manner that will be appreciated by those who have been deterred from studying the game due to excessive material in other works. The established rules of Whist are first defined, followed by sections on introductory remarks on leads, leads of the ace, king, queen, knave, ten, fourth best, forced leads, leads in trumps, and a reference table of leads. Second hand play, third hand play, unblocking, discarding, trump signals and echoes, ruffing, forcing, general remarks on the game, and illustrative hands are also covered. The principles and insights presented in this book have helped generations of players elevate their game of Whist. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…
