Vor diesem Hintergrund untersuchen die Beitrage dieses Bandes wichtige Begriffe und die philosophische Arbeit an ihnen. Damit geht es auch um das Selbstverstandnis der Philosophie und den Beitrag, den ihre Begriffsklarungen fur die Gesellschaft leisten konnen. Philosophical knowledge is often described as conceptual. Therefore, concepts have been an important topic in philosophy at least since Plato's theory of forms. Very recently, the study of concepts has taken new and exciting routes. Experimental philosophers investigate the understanding of concepts with tools that are new to philosophy. Furthermore, an increased awareness of problematic concepts - e.g., concepts that contribute to discrimination - has helped to establish the new field of conceptual ethics. Against this backdrop, the contributions to this volume explore important concepts and philosophical work on them. In this way, the volume also addresses the self-understanding of philosophy and the contribution that philosophical work on concepts can bring to broader society.
About the Author: Claus Beisbart ist Professor fur Wissenschaftsphilosophie an der Universitat Bern. Er wurde 2001 in Physik und 2004 in Philosophie promoviert, beides an der Universitat Munschen. Derzeit interessiert er sich vor allem fur philosophische Methoden, Philosophie der Physik und Kunstliche Intelligenz. Kurzlich erschien sein Buch Was heisst hier noch real? (2024). Claus Beisbart is Professor for Philosophy of Science at the University of Bern. He obtained a PhD in physics in 2001, and another in philosophy in 2004, both from the University at Munich. His current research interests are focused on philosophical methodology, philosophy of physics and Artificial Intelligence. His most recent book is titled Was heisst hier noch real? (2024).
