Computer Arithmetic (Volumes I-III) collects landmark articles originally published by the IEEE Computer Society Press in 1990. The editor has arranged the articles from fixed point to floating point arithmetic, each explained with a critique to tell the story of the development of modern-day computer design from the founding roots of the design of an arithmetic logic unit (ALU) to its enhancement towards supporting complex computation with the floating point arithmetic. These have made it possible by the advance in Very-large-scale integration (VLSI).
