A comprehensive collection of the writings of Edward M. Bounds, The Complete Works of E. M. Bounds brings together his major works on prayer, spiritual discipline, and the Christian life in a single volume.
Bounds devoted much of his life to the study and practice of prayer, and his writings consistently emphasize its central role in shaping both personal faith and effective ministry. This collection gathers his principal works, presenting a sustained examination of prayer as a disciplined practice that informs character, conduct, and spiritual development.
Across these writings, Bounds addresses the nature of prayer, its necessity, and the conditions under which it becomes a vital and transformative force. His approach is direct and practical, focusing on lived experience rather than abstract formulation, and emphasizing consistency, intention, and inward discipline.
About the Author
Edward McKendree Bounds (1835–1913) was an American clergyman, attorney, and author widely known for his writings on prayer and the spiritual life. A veteran of the Civil War and later a pastor in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, Bounds devoted his later years to the study and practice of prayer, producing a series of works that have remained influential in devotional and pastoral contexts.
His books, including Power Through Prayer, The Necessity of Prayer, and The Reality of Prayer, emphasize prayer as the central discipline of Christian life, shaping both personal character and effective ministry. The Complete Works of E. M. Bounds offers readers a unified view of his devotional writing and its enduring place within Christian literature.
